Welcoming Reception

The AMTA 2004 Conference Welcoming Reception will will be from 6:00-8:00 Tuesday evening. It includes light hor d'oeuvres. All participants and travelling companions are welcome.

Walking Tour of Georgetown

At 3pm on Thursday afternoon, the conference organizers will be offering a walking tour (appx 2 hours) of historic Georgetown. If you would be interested in participating, please note that when you register for the conference. Since the cost is dependent on the number of people who wish to take the tour (between $10-$20), you will be able to pay for the tour when you register for the conference.

Conference Banquet

The 2004 AMTA Conference Banquet will be held at the historic Union Station in Washington, D.C. at the well-known B. Smith's restaurant. B. Smith's is owned by Barbara Smith of the TV show "B. Smith with Style" and features cajun, creole, and southern cuisine. The restaurant is located in the former VIP waiting area for Union train station and has been restored to its original Beaux Arts glory with "30-foot ceilings, period chandeliers and turn of the century elegance."

The banquet begins at 7pm. Union Station is also accessible by the Washington Metro.

Union Station is within walking distance of the U.S. Capitol and the National Mall. It is also within walking distance of or a short metro ride away from Penn Quarter, one of the capital's trendy, recently rejuvenated neighborhoods where you can have drinks or find an inviting club after the banquet.

The cost will be $65 which includes transportation to/from the conference site; a starter, entree, and dessert and beverages (details forthcoming); plus the camaraderie of machine translation enthusiasts that you can't get anywhere else!

Saturday, October 2

Tour of Washington, DC

The 2004 AMTA Conference Organizers are still planning a tour of Washington, DC on the Saturday following the main conference. The tour will include lunch and possibly a visit to the International Spy Museum.

The cost of the excursion is $95 and you may register for it on the Registration page.
